Each year students (grades 1 through 5) in the state of Wisconsin have the opportunity to participate in the Woodsy Owl/Smokey Bear poster contest sponsored by the National Garden Club and U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service. Entries are first judged at the state level and then advance to the Central Region competition. This year all of the winning entries at the state level were submitted from the Paper Valley Garden Club located in the Fox River Valley District. The top entries for each grade level were sent on to the Central Region. First grader, Derek Seidlet from St. Edwards School in Appleton won at that level and his poster has been submitted to the National Garden Club to be part of the national competition.
