GEORGE ARCHIBALD, PH.D
Honored Guest

In 1973, when cranes were in a perilous situation and many were on the brink of extinction, George Archibald, along with fellow graduate student Ron Sauey, established the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin as the world center for the study and preservation of cranes. His dream was to save the world’s cranes and that notion has been his driving force ever since. Dr. Archibald’s visionary leadership in international conservation over the last fifty years has given flight to extraordinary grassroots recovery efforts across the globe. He and his wife, Kyoko, live in the countryside of Wisconsin where they enjoy gardening and aviculture.

TINA LUTZ
"Spring Floral Designings"

Tina has been with the Wreath Factory at Otter Creek in Plymouth since 1998.   Her duties there are very vast, ranging from creating fresh florals for weddings, part of the buying team for the store merchandise,  store displays, floral arrangements,  managing the store,  coordinating  the marketing materials, along with the human resource responsibilities.  All these tasks keep her on her toes.  When asked about her favorite part of the job she stated “being able to create things to match the style of each customer, you create for the person you are helping, which gives you the opportunity to be creative”.

BRONZE AWARD - GARY BIECK
"Turning an Acre of Lawn into a Garden Paradise"

Gary’s extensive gardens cover over an acre of gardens which are visited by many, including the American and Wisconsin Peony Society and many garden clubs.  His gardens were featured in the Wisconsin Gardening magazine.  Peonies are one of the highlights of his gardens. Thirteen of his tree peonies are featured in the book, Peony: The Best Varieties for Your Garden by Carol Adelman and David Michener.  His grafted tree peonies have a high survival rate.  The greenhouse he built on his property is used to start many of the annuals and perennials found in the gardens.  Gary is especially appreciative of the longtime friendships created through gardening.
